The Lionesses to relinquish their Euros title with a whimper? Forget about it!

Sarina Wiegman’s side bounced back from their defeat to France in emphatic fashion, dispatching the Netherlands 4-0 on Wednesday – limiting their opponents to just one shot on target.

Lauren James, Georgia Stanway, and Ella Toone all found the net, while Alessia Russo provided a hat-trick of assists in the must-win encounter.

The Dutch had never previously conceded more than two goals in a single match at a major women’s tournament.

England will now fancy their chances of progression, as they face Group D’s lowest-ranked nation, Wales, who are still without a point.

The Lionesses are unbeaten in their four previous meetings with Wales, winning three of those by an aggregate score of 9-0. Wales have never scored against England, who have themselves kept a clean sheet in each of their last six victories.

As for the Welsh – currently ranked 30th in the world – they would need to beat England by four or more goals to advance. That looks unlikely, considering their consolation strike in the 4-1 loss to France on Wednesday was their first-ever goal at a major tournament.

Wales have also never beaten a side ranked in FIFA’s top ten, and they haven’t scored more than once in any of their last eight matches across all competitions.

As mentioned, the 26-year-old registered three assists against the Netherlands last time out, but she also leads England for total attempts (7), averaging 3.5 shots per match. The WSL’s top scorer last season, Russo netted 12 goals in 21 games for Arsenal – and she looks well equipped to bag a brace against a Welsh side that has conceded seven goals in just two games.
