ENZO MARESCA has provided an update on Trevoh Chalobah after he left the field for an unusual reason in Chelsea’s win over AC Milan.

Chalobah was left unable to continue in the 57th minute of the Blues’ final pre-season game after receiving treatment.

After a couple of minutes, he was replaced by 19-year-old Josh Acheampong.

And it could have left the Blues in something of a defensive crisis.

However, manager Maresca has given a positive update on the Cobham graduate, with an unusual reason given for why the star left the field.

Speaking after the game, he told DAZN: “He’s okay.

“It was too hot. So, he decided to go out (laughs).”

Levi Colwill was diagnosed with a season-long ACL injury earlier this week after he underwent successful surgery before reporting back to Cobham.

Maresca had called signing a replacement a “priority” following Chelsea‘s 2-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen on Friday.

And with Wesley Fofana also sidelined, it would have left the recently returned Benoit Badiashile – who was not named in the squad to face Milan – inexperienced teen Acheampong and new signing Jorrel Hato as the only realistic options when they face Crystal Palace in their Premier League opener next week.

Axel Disasi also returned to the club after a loan at Aston Villa, but he is not in Maresca’s plans for the season and is expected to leave the club before the window shuts.

Fortunately, Maresca also confirmed Chalobah, 26, would be available to face the Community Shield winners.

Maresca today lined up with Tosin Adarabioyo alongside Chalobah.

Hato, signed from Ajax for £37m last week, was brought off the bench as a substitute for Marc Cucurella.

The 19-year-old was Chelsea’s seventh signing of the summer, following Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens, Estevao, Dario Essugo and Mamadou Sarr.

While Chelsea will be left sweating over the fitness of their central defenders, they will be more than happy with the display their team have put in at Stamford Bridge today.

They scored twice inside eight minutes before 21-year-old Andrei Coubis was sent off for Milan, allowing Chelsea to cruise to the final whistle.

Liam Delap then added a third from the penalty spot in the second half, with Youssouf Fofana scoring a consolation for the Serie A side just three minutes later.

Brazilian wonderkid Estevao then climbed off the bench to set up a second goal for Delap at the death.

And Chelsea fans have every reason to be excited for the new season with the players looking very on point despite their Club World Cup winning exploits earlier this summer.
