Fenerbahce were 3-0 up after the first leg in Turkey last week and things got off to the perfect start on Thursday after Youssef En-Nesyri scored inside four minutes.

But, just after the celebrations had calmed down, the match was suddenly suspended following an incident in the crowd.

Both sets of players headed over to where the trouble was, including former Manchester United star Fred, before they were pulled away.

Former QPR star Bright Osayi-Samuel went the closest to the chaos and even appeared to urge security staff to intervene, before Milan Skriniar dragged him away from the area.

Fenerbahce gaffer Jose Mourinho appeared to instruct his players to come off the pitch amid chaotic scenes in the stands.

Both teams headed back to the dressing room, although other fans at Anderlecht’s Lotto Park Stadium remained in their seats.

It was initially unclear what caused the halt to the game, but TNT Sports’ live coverage claimed it was due to a security issue.

Referee Sandro Schaerer and Mourinho also swiftly made their way down the tunnel to allow riot police to deal with the disturbance.

It subsequently emerged that the game had been suspended after a brawl broke out in the stands.

Riot police rushed into the stands to deal with the crowd trouble, while stewards also did what they could to defuse tensions.

Riot police reportedly intervened in the crowd.

The match has since resumed after a 15 minute stoppage.

Anderlecht equalised through Luis Vazquez, but remain 4-1 down on aggregate.

Mourinho’s side are enjoying an impressive season, although they languish six points behind arch-rivals Galatasaray in the Turkish Super Lig despite winning 18 of their 23 league games.

Their squad includes several former Prem stars including Tadic, Dzeko, Fred, Caglar Soyuncu, Diego Carlos, Allan Saint-Maximin, Sofyan Amrabat and Cenk Tosun.
