After slipping to second in the Premier League table, alongside failing to make the final in the UK and Belgian Open’s. Humphries needs a big win to return to top form.

He does not need it as much as defending champion Michael van Gerwen, however.

This is the first iteration of the tournament since 2018 and MVG needs a big win to turnaround what has been a poor 2025 so far.

He was recently eliminated in the second round by world No 111 Niko Springer in the Players Championship 7, adding to embarrassing early losses in the UK and Belgian Opens.

The Dutch darting sensation may well be turning a corner, however, after making the final of the Premier League darts in Cardiff on Thursday night.

He fell to Littler, who scored an epic NINE-DARTER on the way to picking up his third nightly win.

Stephen Bunting also withdrew, meaning Michael Smith earned a bye into the second round and Ryan Joyce was drafted in.
