A MOTHER repeatedly injected her two-year-old son with insulin as part of a warped plot to make him fall ill.

Alexandra Marie Frost, 27, was convicted over the spate of abuse she was found to have inflicted on her child.

The abuse dated back to 2023 when the young child was rushed to a children’s hospital in Iowa City, Iowa, according to court documents seen by The Gazette.

He was experiencing low blood sugar levels, which meant he had to be given glucose.

But, tests that were conducted revealed his insulin levels were high.

Doctors feared something more sinister was unfolding when they spotted the boy’s glucose levels were not consistent.

Sometimes, the results would be stable, while on other occasions, his glucose levels would drop.

The boy was being given insulin – even though doctors ruled he didn’t need the injections.

If someone is given insulin but they don’t need it, it can cause blood sugar levels to become dangerously low.

This is known as hypoglycemia and potential health effects include seizures and brain damage.

Investigators uncovered a shocking video that captured Frost injecting her son with insulin.

The plot emerged after doctors planted a camera in a hospital room as they tried to understand what was happening to the boy.

Frost went to a nearby bathroom and retrieved a syringe.

She then put the syringe into the boy’s foot, which caused him to cry, according to the court documents.

Frost tried to cover her tracks by putting the syringe into a box for needles.

GUILTY PLEA

A nurse later revealed Frost didn’t put a bandage covering where the injection had been administered.

The baby was removed from Frost’s care and hasn’t suffered any health effects since.

In June, she pleaded guilty to charges of child endangerment that resulted in bodily injury.

She also pleaded guilty to a charge of injecting harmful substances.

Frost begged for a suspended sentence but received a 10-year prison sentence.

She also tried to walk back on her guilty plea before being sentenced.

The two charges were considered Class D felonies.

If someone is convicted of such an offense in Iowa, then they face a maximum five-year prison sentence.
