The storm is likely to spark travel chaos, with roads and bridges shut and trains and buses delayed or cancelled.
Furious winds could also scramble phone networks and trigger power cuts.
Nearly 100m of rain could fall in some parts of northern England, which is covered by one of the amber warnings.
Western England, Wales, Northern Ireland and parts of Scotland are the other areas where amber warnings will come into force.
Flooding is expected across much of the UK, including the areas covered by yellow rather than amber warnings.
This morning the Environment Agency issued 12 “expected” flood warnings and 59 “possible” flood alerts.
A UK Health Security Agency amber cold health alert is in place until Saturday at noon.
But the weekend will also bring warmer temperatures after the snow and sub-zero chills of the past days.
The mercury could rise to a unseasonably warm 12C just before the storm hits on Sunday.
Storm Isha is the ninth named storm to hit the UK since the season began in September.
Each storm is named when it poses a risk to people and they are given names beginning with consecutive letters of the alphabet.
