Emergency services scrambled to the horror in Cheltenham shortly before 10pm on Thursday.

They treated a woman at the scene on Springbank Way before taking her to hospital.

Her condition is unknown.

One resident told GloucestershireLive they saw a “big explosion and fire” following an incident labelled “grade one” by police.

Pictures of the aftermath show the bungalow reduced to a pile of rubble and charred beams.

Bricks cover the pavement as smoke billows from the property’s scorched remains.

Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue said they were alerted to the fire at 9.48pm on Thursday.

The cause of the blaze remains unknown.

A Gloucestershire Police spokesperson said last night: “One female casualty has been treated on scene and taken to hospital, surrounding properties have been evacuated.

“At present crews are carrying out search and rescue plus extinguishing pockets of fire and will remain on scene for some considerable time.”
