MANCHESTER UNITED goalkeeper Altay Bayindir has caused a social media storm after footage emerged of him apparently celebrating a goal that he had CONCEDED.

The game in question was United’s 2-0 home defeat by West Ham United last weekend.

Bayindir was caught on camera supposedly “celebrating” West Ham’s second goal

United slumped to 16th in the league with their defeat

Tomas Soucek and Jarrod Bowen got the goals that saw Graham Potter‘s Hammers leapfrog the Red Devils into 15th in the Premier League table.

There was one particular moment in the game that keen-eyed fans spotted, when United keeper Bayindir appeared to celebrate West Ham‘s second goal.

Bayindir, deputising in net in place of Andre Onana, was caught by the official West Ham TikTok account, with the club posting footage of Bowen’s second goal.

After Aaron Wan-Bissaka, the former United right-back, had set up Bowen to stroke home the second, Bayindir turned to the stand behind him, fists clenched, and roared, almost as if he were celebrating.

The West Ham account captioned the incident: “Did the goalkeeper celebrate?”

In the comments section, fans were having a field day.

One said: “I thought this last night watching MOTD. Such an odd reaction.”

Another commented: “Either he’s frustrated, or he bet on United to lose”, while another tweeted: “Makes me think, does Ruben Amorim tells them to intentionally lose in the Premier league for the owners to buy him his players? Because why would he celebrate?”

United manager Amorim had rotated his side following their Europa League semi-final win over Athletic Bilbao in midweek.

However, the stand-ins did not take the opportunity they had been given to impress, with the Portuguese forced to turn to his bench early in the second half.

He brought on Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof in the 52nd minute to replace Luke Shaw and Leny Yoro, with the latter forced off injured.

Amorim said that he was unsure on the Frenchman’s condition and whether he would be available for the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur.

He then brought on January arrival Patrick Dorgu and Alejandro Garnacho in immediate response to Bowen’s goal, but neither could provide the spark that United needed to get back into the game.

The Red Devils travel to Champions League-chasing Chelsea next, before they head to Bilbao next week for the Europa League final.

They end the season at home to Aston Villa, whose form has picked up as they hunt a top-five finish themselves.
