SKY SPORTS were branded a “shambles” after Emma Raducanu’s opening match in Madrid vanished off the telly.

The Brit was in action against Dutch world No.73 Suzan Lamens on Wednesday at the Madrid Open.

But several viewers complained during the clash, which Raducanu later won 7-6 6-4 in her first match on clay this season.

Fans were put out after the match disappeared off screen in a shock technical glitch.

The Sky coverage had suddenly switched over to a men’s singles match instead.

The stream turned over to Nuno Borges in action against Pablo Carreno Busta.

And fans took to social media to express their frustration.

One said: “‘Please sort your tennis coverage @SkySportsTennis.

While another said: “Shambles from Sky over Raducanu coverage.

A third quizzed: “Why are we suddenly on a men’s match?”

A fourth wrote: “This has been down for about 10 minutes now.”

The broadcaster appeared to eventually resolve the problem as Raducanu booked her spot in the second round.

Raducanu’s win over Lamens marked her first match since her impressive run to the Miami Open quarter-finals last month.

Before her opening match, Raducanu revealed she intends to continue her coaching partnership with Mark Petchey.

Afterwards, Raducanu explained why the win was so significant.

The 22-year-old said: “It meant a lot to me to get my first match win on the clay.

“I mean, last year, I lost first round here and then didn’t play for the rest of the clay court season.”

The British No.2 is set to face Ukrainian world No.36 Marta Kostyuk next.

The 2021 US Open champion is currently gearing up for the next major event of the year – the French Open – which gets underway on May 25.
