Heaven’s sake

ANYONE who doubts how Britain is going totally bonkers should read about the arrest of Father Ted comedy writer Graham Linehan.

Getting off a flight from Arizona at Heathrow, he was intercepted by FIVE armed cops.

His alleged crime? Posting tweets about trans activists.

One included a call to any woman confronted by a trans person in a female-only space to “punch him in the balls”.

No doubt some will have been offended by Linehan’s post.

But is it a criminal offence?

And is it really worth the huge cost and waste of public resources involved in his detainment and possible prosecution over “inciting violence”?

Linehan revealed his arrest as Reform leader Nigel Farage today warns the US Congress that Britain suffers from an “illiberal and authoritarian censorship regime”, particularly when it comes to online comments.

How embarrassing that Americans’ image of Brits is now one of us living in fear of arrest for having an opinion.

The public are sick of seeing cops sent mob-handed to investigate social media while gangs of muggers and shoplifters are left unmolested.

But the Government can and should force an end to this stupidity.

Britain is not North Korea.

Even if the police and our feeble, woke-minded authorities increasingly make us feel like it is.

Gilt trip

IS Britain about to suffer from madness in the money markets?

With worrying relentlessness, the cost of Government borrowing rises daily.

The City remains deeply concerned about the country’s ability to pay off its debts.

And the Government’s latest reset has done little to reassure traders.
International investors are on the point of losing confidence in Labour’s willingness to take the tough decisions necessary to bring ballooning borrowing down.

Not least because of the recent failure to curb welfare spending.

New tax rises in the Budget will mire the UK in a “doom loop” of non-existent growth and worsening public finances.

We’re deep in the red… and the warning lights are flashing.

Doh matron

TV trigger warnings are getting seriously out of hand.

Comedy great Kenneth Williams is the latest to be slapped with a caution, for “innuendo” on a special filmed in 1983.

It seems politically correct TV execs don’t like it up ’em.

Their pointless Carry On is a right pain in the Khyber.
