The Goblin cordless vacuum cleaner is being urgently recalled
The Goblin cordless vacuum is an immensely popular product, designed to make cleaning easy.
However it is now being removed from shelves, after a fire risk was uncovered.
A statement on the UK Government’s website reads: “It has been identified that in some units of the Goblin handheld vacuum, the battery may overheat.
“This could pose a fire safety risk if left on charge and unattended.”
The statement added that the device “does not meet the requirements of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016”.
Shoppers who own the device have been urged to stop using it, in light of the risks.
The affected product is the GHV102W-20 model of vacuum.
The cordless vacuum’s label says that it was “produced for Asda stores”, so shoppers have been advised to use the supermarket’s recall site for more information.
On Asda’s website, a statement reads: “Stop using the unit and return it to your nearest ASDA store for a full refund or exchange.
“We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused.
“If you would like any further information, please contact Asda Customer Relations on 0800 952 0101.”
However, your product can only be returned if it has one of the following site codes on the body of the vacuum.
The site codes include:
15A.08.20.115
15A.10.21.181
15A.09.22.168
Any vacuum with the site code 15A.09.22.168A is not included in the recall.
Your product recall rights
Chief consumer reporter James Flanders reveals all you need to know.
Product recalls are an important means of protecting consumers from dangerous goods.
As a general rule, if a recall involves a branded product, the manufacturer would usually have lead responsibility for the recall action.
But it’s often left up to supermarkets to notify customers when products could put them at risk.
If you are concerned about the safety of a product you own, always check the manufacturer’s website to see if a safety notice has been issued.
When it comes to appliances, rather than just food items, the onus is usually on you – the customer – to register the appliance with the manufacturer as if you don’t there is no way of contacting you to tell you about a fault.
If you become aware that an item you own has been recalled or has any safety noticed issued against it, make sure you follow the instructions given to you by the manufacturer.
They should usually provide you with more information and a contact number on its safety notice.
In some cases, the manufacturer might ask you to return the item for a full refund or arrange for the faulty product to be collected.
You should not be charged for any recall work – such as a repair, replacement or collection of the recalled item
