The star is feared to have died in the crash, after it’s believed he shared a photo of himself at the plane’s controls, reported the Daily Mail.

He was seen boarding a Cessna 550 at Teterboro Airport in New Jersey late Wednesday night, it added.

An Instagram post showed him at the plane’s controls, and he had written caption, “Here we gooooo.”

The Mail cited tracking data as showing that the aircraft, with a tail number of N666DS, took off from the airport at 11:15 pm.

The Cessna then stopped for fuel in Wichita, Kansas, before continuing on to California.

Shapiro’s friend Tony Cappocchi, a music agent, paid tribute to Shapiro, telling the Mail: “Dave was a great friend of ours.”

Terrance Coughlin also paid tribute, saying on X, “Rest in Peace Dave Shapiro, Daniel Williams, and everyone on that flight.

“Some of my very first shows were booked through Dave.

“I had a handful of shows with Daniel, always a pleasure to see him play. Gone way too soon.”

CBS 8 reported, “We do have some information about who the plane is registered to.

“It’s to a man named David Shapiro, who owns a music industry booking agency. We’re told he owns several planes.

“But at this point we have not confirmed that he was the one piloting this plane.”

According to news agency the Associated Press, the plane that crashed was headed from New Jersey to San Diego after a fueling stop in Kansas.

But it crashed about two miles (3 km) from San Diego’s Montgomery-Gibbs Executive airport.

Two people have so far been reported dead by authorities.

The fiery crash, which happened before 4 am today, set 15 homes and several cars ablaze.

Eight others were injured when the plane plunged from the sky and crashed into military housing in heavy fog.
