He has caught the eye in finishing behind the all-conquering Galopin Des Champs twice the season.
The most recent of which was a really good run in the star-studded Irish Gold Cup at Leopardstown earlier this month.
Inothewayurthinkin’s mark has been left unchanged on 160 since that brilliant performance, where he finished fourth beaten just over seven lengths.
Punters think he’s got in the National lightly on the back of it and have hammered him into 8-1 from 12-1.
But shrewd Cromwell is keeping his cards very close to his chest and insists the former Kim Muir winner is not certain to line up in the £1million contest on Saturday, April 5.
He said: “Inothewayurthinkin (11st 5lb) is on 160 which is the same as his mark in Ireland.
“I wouldn’t say he is a certain runner at this stage and we will look at other options for him, including the Bowl at Aintree.
“He will also get an entry in the Irish National as well.”
The moves in the market since the weights came out have given Irish billionaire JP McManus a stranglehold on the world’s most famous race.
While Willie Mullins’ defending champion I Am Maximus has drifted to 10-1 on the back of being given top weight, money has come for Iroko.
The British-trained runner is into 12-1 – meaning legendary racing figure McManus owns the top three in the market.
While one of his other runners, Meetingofthewaters, halved in price.
Coral’s David Stevens said: “With I Am Maximus being asked to carry eight pounds more than when he was victorious in last year’s race, punters have instead turned their attention to Inothewayurthinkin since the weights were unveiled.
“Gavin Cromwell’s charge is now clear favourite for the Aintree showpiece.”
