Half a dozen large black bins were buried under piles of bursting bin bags and carrier bags full of waste.

Hundreds of cardboard boxes also sat on top of the overflowing recycling bins.

Most of the boxes were piled up on top of other bags of rubbish in front of the bins on the side of the road.

The huge mess was left at the Asda Superstore at Halbeath Retail Park in Dunfermline, Fife.

Pictures, shared on Facebook by Fife jammer locations, showed empty TV boxes, toy boxes and bags full of wrapping paper discarded at the retail park after the festive celebrations.

Locals have been left angered by the heap of litter, with many taking to the comments to slam the fly-tippers.

Not only is this unsightly, but this could also attract vermin… keep it at home until the tips are open again. Disgusting!

One person said: “I did a tip run on the 21st to get rid of excess cardboard/paper/bin bags so that my bins would be mostly empty in preparation for the tip being shut over Christmas and Boxing Day. This is absolutely shocking to keep adding to the pile”.

Another added: “Not only is this unsightly, but this could also attract vermin, too. For the sake of a few days, keep it at home until the tips are open again. Disgusting!”

Someone else wrote: “Just lazy. Cut your boxes up and pack them together. Loads of room saved.”

While a fourth posted: “Absolutely disgraceful, what would make you think that it was acceptable to dump your rubbish like that?”

And a fifth chimed in: “Disgusting, can’t people wait until tomorrow when recycling centres open and bins are emptied”.

Bosses at Asda have urged customers not to dump their rubbish at the store when the bins are full.

A spokesperson said: “We want to ensure that our stores and the surrounding areas are clean and tidy for our customers.

Absolutely disgraceful, what would make you think that it was acceptable to dump your rubbish like that?

Fuming local

“So we ask that members of the public use the council-operated waste bins by our Dunfermline superstore responsibly.

“If they are full, please don’t leave rubbish nearby and instead wait for them to be emptied — which they are regularly.”

Fife Council has been contacted for comment.

It comes as bins across the country have been left drowning in waste after Christmas.

Many homeowners have taken their rubbish to bins on the street after filling up their wheelie bins over the festive period.

Huge piles of rubbish have been dumped beside the overflowing bins in the carpark at Drumbrae Leisure Centre in Edinburgh.

CRIMINAL OFFENCE

FLY-TIPPING means dumping waste illegally, instead of using the kerbside collection service or your local recycling centre.

From a bin bag left in front of your bin store or on the street to a mountain of tyres abandoned in a field, it’s all flytipping.

Flytipping is a criminal offence. If you’re caught you face a fixed penalty notice of £200.

But if you get taken to court, you could be fined up to £40,000 or sent to prison for a maximum of five years.

It’s up to you to store and dispose of your household waste legally, safely and responsibly.

This means using your bins correctly and taking them in again once emptied. Check your local Council website for the correct way to use your bins.

If you have any information relating to a flytipping incident you can report it anonymously on your local council website.
