The 63-year-old, a former NHS nurse, became a priest in 2006 and became the first Bishop of London in 2018.

It marks the first time in nearly 500 years that the Church has appointed a woman to lead it.

She will succeed Reverend Justin Welby, who stepped down after an abuse scandal last year.
