Footage showed the vehicle giving off thick black smoke as it was consumed by the fire, with people seen standing next to the burning minibus with suitcases, witnesses reported.
The fire service confirmed it had attended the blaze and extinguished the fire.
One witness who recorded a video of the blaze said: “[It] must have not long happened as only as we were moving further down we saw fire engines starting to race up.
“[We] saw people on side of the road with suitcases so [it] must have been a travel mini bus.”
A spokesperson for the fire service said: “Crews were called at around 11.30 to reports of a mini-bus on fire on the hard shoulder of the A1.
“The fire had spread to a nearby hedge.
“Everyone was off the bus.
“Crews using hose reel jets to tackle the fire and beaters on the grass fire.
