FLORIAN WIRTZ has jetted into the UK to hold transfer talks with Manchester City.

The 22-year-old was one of Bayer Leverkusen‘s star performers last season, which saw them make an ill-fated bid to retain the Bundesliga title.

GettyCity have reportedly held talks with the 22-year-old over a summer move to the Etihad[/caption]

His displays caught the eye of City boss Pep Guardiola, who is said to have eyed up the Germany international as a replacement for the departing Kevin de Bruyne.

And Wirtz is said to have been in England today to discuss a potential move to the Etihad.

That’s according to Bild, who claims City have made a “formal offer” to Leverkusen for the midfielder’s services.

The status of City’s talks with Wirtz and his representatives are currently unknown.

Guardiola, however, will face a battle to acquire the German.

Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich are also keen on signing the 22-year-old.

The Bavraians are in need of a new attacking player due to club legend Thomas Muller’s departure from the Allianz Arena.

And their need for a new forward-thinking player could increase in the coming weeks if Leroy Sane opts not to sign a new deal.

Wirtz enjoyed a stellar season with Leverkusen in the 2024/25 campaign, scoring 16 goals and racking up 15 assists in all competitions.

The Leverkusen brass were last month hopeful of keeping Writz at the BayArena.

Club CEO Fernando Carro said: “The chances are very high that he will remain with us after this season.

“There has been no contact from Bayern Munich about Florian.”

He added: “There is no pain threshold. It could be that a club approaches him.

“But if it’s a move he doesn’t want, then that’s a different matter.”
