Teams in Essex, Devon, London and Berkshire are among those that have been affected.

Myrak Park, home of Buckhurst Hill FC, has been completely flooded, so much so that the only visible parts of the pitch are the goalposts.

Other sports have also been affected.

Huntingdon racecourse was left submerged, causing major concern.

Worcestershire Cricket Club’s New Road ground was also hit by flash floods.

The 5,500-seater arena is one of the oldest in the country, having been built in 1896.

A Powerleague football centre in Nottingham is among the facilities destroyed by flood water.

The five-aside astroturf centre was left flooded up to the roof.

Brits were warned to stay at home this week as 90mph winds battered the UK.

The Environment Agency said there were 368 active alerts in England for possible flooding.
