CHELSEA’S former £22million flop Baba Rahman has been rushed to hospital – after swallowing his tongue in an on-field collision.

The Ghana international, 29, joined the Blues from German side Augsburg in 2015.

But he played just one season in West London, making 23 appearances, before being shipped out on a series of loans.

Rahman spent the last two seasons in the Championship with Reading after spells with Schalke, Reims, Mallorca and PAOK.

The left-back left Stamford Bridge for Greek Super League side PAOK in a permanent deal last summer.

He was knocked unconscious in a sickening accident while playing for them on Wednesday night.

Rahman clashed heads with Panathinaikos defender Georgios Vagiannidis and slumped to the turf before an ambulance rushed him to hospital.

A PAOK spokesman said: “Baba lost consciousness after an aerial clash of heads, and his tongue was also twisted – with the player in real danger.

“With the intervention of the doctors, however, the Ghanaian recovered and was then immediately taken to hospital.”

Hosts Panathinaikos went on to win the Greek Cup semi-final on penalties after the tie ended 2-2 on aggregate.

Rahman later took to social media to say he was no longer in danger.

He wrote on X: “Hello, just wanted to thank everyone for their concern and well wishes in the last 12 or so hours.

“Thankfully I’m recovering well, and scans have shown no major damage.

“I’d like to also say a big thank you to Georgios Vagiannidis for personally checking in on me at the hospital.

“It was a tough night, but I’ll be back running up and down again soon.”

Tamale-born Rahman has won 51 caps for Ghana.

He helped PAOK win the Greek Cup during his loan to the Salonika club in 2021, and has made 18 appearances for them this season – scoring three goals.
