The Chelsea legend is trying to put his vision together at the new club and is tackling the January transfer window for reinforcement.

According to Coventry Live, the England great is closing in on his first signing as Rangers ace Rabbi Matondo is set to move to the Coventry Building Society Arena.

Matondo, 24, will be joining on loan until the end of the season with a buy option in the region of £2million.

Coventry are ready to beat competition from Championship rivals Sunderland and Sheffield Wednesday.

The winger hasn’t seen much first-team action this season, mainly due to a hamstring injury.

Thus, Matondo has only managed a mere two goals and three assists in eight appearances with Rangers, with whom he has yet to play in the Europa League.

The Coventry target started out at Cardiff and Manchester City’s academy before moving to Schalke in 2019.

The Welsh ace broke into the first team and spent three years with the German giants, who also loaned him out to Stoke and Cercle Brugge in 2021.

He then moved to Rangers in 2022 and has since registered a total of eight goals and 12 assists in 67 appearances.

The Wales international also counts 12 caps ever since his international debut in 2018.

Coventry have also been strongly linked with Crystal Palace ace Jeffrey Schlupp.
