CELEBRITY chef Rick Stein has been battered by diners over the size of the fish at his chippy.

He charges a minimum of £15.95 for a takeaway serving of haddock and chips.

It rises to £19.95 for diners in his cafe — plus another £2.25 for a pot of mayo on the side.

But scores of diners at Stein’s Fish & Chips in Padstow, Cornwall — known as Padstein after Rick — are reeling at the portion sizes.

One TripAdvisor review is titled: “Cheap nasty minuscule fish and chips at sky-high West End prices.”

Another customer called it “bang average” and added:  “I still can’t get over being charged £2.25 for a tiny, tiny little pot of mayonnaise.”

A third posted: “It wasn’t big enough for a kiddies’ meal. Absolute rip-off.”

Food critic Gary Hanna said he was so appalled by Rick’s diner that he ended up sending his meal back.

When The Sun took a tape measure to the diner, our fish came up at 10ins — meaning we got an inch of fish for nearly £2.

And we found that Rick was charging nearly twice as much as local rivals.

In nearby Porthleven, 9in haddock and chips cost £12.30 (£1.36 per inch), and a 9in meal in Helston cost £12 (£1.33 per inch).

Meanwhile, at the Fish Box in Robin’s Hood Bay, near Whitby, a 14in serving cost £10.90. They told us: “We don’t scrimp up here.”

A representative for Rick, 78, was asked to comment.
