DISGRACED former newsreader Huw Edwards has ignored BBC pleas to return the £200,000 he was paid after his arrest on paedophile charges.

The corporation’s chairman Samir Shah said yesterday that the former News at Ten anchor had repeatedly been asked to “just give it back”.

Mr Shah told Times Radio: “We’ve been asking him and asking him and asking him.

“We’re getting legal advice on it.”

He then made a direct appeal to Edwards, 63, saying: “If Huw is listening, give it back.

“Just give it back.

“You know you should do it.”

Edwards was on £475,000 a year when he was arrested in November 2023 over child abuse images.

He was not sacked, even though some senior BBC staff knew he had been held.

He was allowed to step down on medical grounds in April 2024.

This was after The Sun separately revealed he had paid a vulnerable young man £35,000 for sex snaps.

Last September Edwards admitted three counts of making incident images of children and got a suspended six-month jail term.

The BBC then said talks over the £200,000 were under way.
