He has been linked to Manchester Arena terrorist Hashem Abedi, 28, who allegedly threw boiling oil at guards and used blades made from metal trays in the separation unit of HMP Frankland, Co Durham.
Fellow inmate Choudary — branded Britain’s worst Islamist radicaliser — was reported to have encouraged him.
In 2024, Choudary was jailed for life with a minimum of 28 years for directing a terror group.
Freedom of Information figures show he got £211,823.91 in legal aid for his trial.
Previously, £154,883.23 covered his defence at a trial in 2016.
Choudary has reportedly used the European Court of Human Rights to ensure he and other Islamists were not deprived of entitlements, such as access to kitchens — which was where the Frankland attack happened.
Security intelligence reports had previously identified his potential malign influence on the inmates.
Intelligence expert Prof Anthony Glees said: “Not a penny should have been released until the Legal Services Agency has tested each claim.
“The link between Abedi and Choudary shows separation units are doing the exact reverse.”
The Ministry of Justice said: “Legal aid is paid to representatives to ensure a fair trial.”
