GAMEWEEKS

The season is divided up into Gameweeks, with each one acting as a scoring period.

You will need to make sure your team is set up for the upcoming Gameweek prior to the deadline, which typically falls 90 minutes before the first fixture (usually Friday night or Saturday lunchtime).

However, the first deadline of the season is 8pm on August 15th to coincide with kick-off between Liverpool and Bournemouth, the season’s curtain-raiser.

Prior to each deadline, you will need to confirm any transfers you wish to make, select your captain (and vice captain), and activate any Boosters you wish to play.

Please be aware that any changes made after the deadline won’t go through until the following Gameweek (Substitute exceptions aside).

Frequently, teams will play twice within the same Gameweek.

For example, there will be several Gameweeks that accommodate the usual Premier League games plus a full round of European fixtures.

Expect plenty of double Gameweeks for the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea, Newcastle, Tottenham, Aston Villa, Crystal Palace AND Nottingham Forest.

More fixtures equals more point-scoring opportunities and so it’s often wise to tailor your XI with a view to targeting these juicy double headers.

The upcoming Gameweek deadline is displayed in app and on site and the fixtures for each Gameweek can be viewed in the Match Centre.

TRANSFERS

Once the season is underway, you will need to make transfers to react to the unfolding drama using your available budget.

Whether you’re ditching injured/suspended players or replacing under-performing flops with in-form gems, transfers will keep your team fresh.

Prior to the start of the season, you can make as many transfers as you like so feel free to experiment with various formations, combinations etc.

Once the action begins, you will have two transfers available per Gameweek.

If you decide not to make a transfer (a perfectly good decision in certain scenarios) then both transfers will roll over to the following Gameweek.

Similarly, if you decide to make just one transfer then your unused one will carry over, giving you three the following Gameweek.

However, there is a limit to the number of transfers you can roll over – the maximum available at any one time is six.

Deciding when to make changes and when to bank transfers is a crucial strategic element.

Sometimes it pays to target short-term gains but other times you will need to plan ahead for long-term success.

Transfers can be reversed any time before the deadline without cost.

We’ll be on hand every week with transfer suggestions as well as other tips that should help guide your approach.
