Gary Lineker to present ‘exciting’ new highlights show after signing landmark deal with ITV

GARY LINEKER will present a new LaLiga highlights show on his The Rest is Football podcast.

The presenter is set to begin the new venture after leaving the BBC and Match of the Day at the end of last season.

He will host The Rest is Football: LaLiga, a highlights show which will feature clips from every LaLiga match each week.

It will be the first video edition of the podcast and presenter Alex Aljow will act as co-host.

Lineker said of the new show: “I’ve made no secret of my love for Spanish football over the years.

“Ever since I played there in the late ’80s, I’ve followed the story of LaLiga closely.

“Now, with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Marcus Rashford joining Jude Bellingham and Conor Gallagher in Spain, all eyes will be on LaLiga’s biggest games each week.”

Lineker, 64, is also set to return to Saturday night TV – but with BBC rival ITV.

The former MOTD star with host a new gameshow called The Box.

However he is not in the broadcaster’s plans to host the World Cup next year.

Lineker had been a fixture on BBC Saturday night screens for 26 years as host of Match of the Day.

For the past eight years, he has been the BBC’s highest paid broadcaster.

Last month he still topped its annual pay league, earning £1.35million.

He was due to quit the BBC after next summer’s World Cup but was forced out in May after sharing a controversial post about Zionism on Instagram.
