GERMAN Mayor Iris Stalzer has accused her stepdaughter of torturing her for hours before she was stabbed 13 times in a frenzied attack.

Stalzer, 57, alleged that her adopted daughter, 17, tried to set her on fire with deodorant and lighter before knifing her in the stomach and back.

Despite also suffering severe blunt-force injuries to her skull, Stalzer’s condition was mercifully revealed to be stable.

Speaking to German cops investigating the brutal attack, the mum said she was tormented for hours inside the basement of her house.

She said she was attacked by her stepdaughter, who tried to set her hair and clothes on fire using deodorant, Bild reports.

The adopted daughter told cops she wanted revenge, but didn’t reveal the cause, it is understood.

The stabbing comes just weeks after her adopted daughter allegedly lunged at her with a knife, German media previously reported.

A special homicide squad was put onto the case and soon announced a “family connection” was suspected.

Iris Stalzer sustained life-threatening injuries.

The adopted daughter allegedly stabbed the politician with two knives.

Prosecutors said the answers Stalzer gave to police “incriminated” her daughter after authorities questioned her and Stalzer’s 15-year-old adopted son.

German cops also found one of the knives used in the attack inside the son’s backpack.

There was also blood-stained clothing found, which belonged to the father, cops said.

One neighbour revealed that they heard chilling screams just moments before the mayor was stabbed.

They said: “Half an hour before the rescue helicopter landed, I heard the boy and his mother arguing. They were literally screaming at each other.”

Screams were often heard from the mayor’s house, they added.

Meanwhile, forensic investigators discovered that a large stain of blood had been removed – indicating that attempts were made to remove evidence.

The 17-year-old first called the emergency services, and the son told cops that “several men” had attacked his mum outside.

Prosecutors added that an arrest warrant will not be issued due to laws around juvenile suspects.

Rather, both children will be released and handed over to the youth welfare office.

Stalzer’s adopted son initially told police that he found his mum inside their home following the brutal attack.

He claimed that “multiple men were involved in the stabbing”.

However, police later ascertained that it had happened inside.

Stalzer had only been elected mayor for the 22,500-inhabitant town in the Ruhr region after a runoff vote on September 28.

She narrowly won with 52.2 per cent of the vote against centre-right Christian Democrat candidate Fabian Conrad Haas.

Her term of office is set to begin on November 1.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, of the centre-right Christian Democratic Union (CDU), spoke about the attack on social media: “We have received news of a terrible deed in Herdecke.

“It must be swiftly investigated. We fear for the life of the mayor-designate and hope for her full recovery.”
