The new development comes as the government pushes local authorities to build more homes
The huge new 1,231-acre site at Upper Heyford will provide thousands of homes.
It comes as the government pushes local authorities to build more housing.
Developer Dorchester Living secured the £99 million loan from Cheyne Capital to support the ongoing regeneration of Upper Heyford.
A total of 9,000 homes will be included in the new site as well as local services and facilities.
Dorchester Living has already constructed more than 1,000 homes in the area as well as a school and hotel.
Community facilities
Landmark plans showing the planned site revealed that new schools and community facilities will be added to the site.
There will also be additional spaces for business, with nearly 3,000 of the total homes classed as affordable housing.
Also included in the proposals are upgrades to Heyford railway station.
The company has reportedly said its long-term ambition is for Heyford Park to become the UK’s first town to generate more renewable energy than it consumes through solar and wind power.
It has also been reported that objections have been raised locally about the scale of the development.
Concerns about expansion
These include concerns from the local Liberal Democrat MP Calum Miller.
A decision on the development is expected next year
A decision by Cherwell District Council is expected in early 2026.
The news comes as the Government pushes ahead with its plans to build more housing by the end of the parliament.
Housing, as well as delivering economic growth, was one of the Labour Party’s key areas that it wanted to focus on when taking office.
Angela Rayner, secretary for housing, sensationally quit the government last week.
It came after a sleaze investigation found she breached the ministerial ethics code.
