The chef and his nine-year-old son were pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, while his daughter later died in hospital.

His pregnant wife was also rushed to hospital in a critical condition having suffered life-threatening injuries, but survived the crash.

The lorry driver was treated at the scene for injuries, but was later discharged by paramedics.

An inquest into Alomgir’s death was opened at Leicester Town Hall on Wednesday.

It heard how the family were travelling along the A5 Watling Street near Hinckley when the devastating crash took place at around 4.30pm.

Enquiries into the crash are understood to be ongoing and the full inquest was adjourned to a later date pending further investigation.

Alomgir is said to have worked as a chef at the Everest Noodle House in Walsall town centre.

Flowers were left outside the premises following his death last month, with a notice placed on its shutters informing passersby of the deaths.

John Loka, the manager of the Sophia Bar and Grill next door, said he was “broken” when he heard of the fatal crash.

He told BirminghamLive: “”I had no words. – all of the staff are in shock. He was a chef.

“I have known him for six months, he was a very good man. He always tried to help me when I opened six months ago. He always asked if I needed anything.

“The night before the crash he came with his son and daughter. He brought his family to try the food because they hadn’t tried Greek food – they were a lovely family.

“People who come in have been asking about them. Everyone is shocked.”
