A WEST YORKSHIRE golf club is now derelict after being abandoned in 2019.

Lofthouse Hill Golf Club closed its doors after 25 years in business, having opened in 1994 in Wakefield.

Originally a nine-hole course, it expanded to 18 in 2004 and could host up to 130 people.

The family-run business offered a driving range and a golf school, and the course measured 6,014 yards, with a standard scratch score of 70.

There was also a bar and restaurant on site with the venue available to hire for functions and events.

But that all stopped in November 2019 after the club went out of business on short notice.

The venue has fallen into a state of disrepair since with many areas overgrown – though evidence of its golf past remains.

A fire in 2021 as a result of an arson attack destroyed much of the clubhouse, with most of the roof collapsing and bricks being left scattered around.

However old scorecards survived the blaze, while an abandoned golf buggy lying in the bushes leaves behind a reminder of what once was.

But the fairways have grown out of control and are more recognisable as fields, while it is almost impossible to pinpoint where the greens once lay.

Rusted clubs and fire-damaged furniture have been left behind in the clubhouse, which once hosted a pro shop too.
