Migrant mess
DAY one of Phase 2 of the Government’s pledge to deliver what voters want by stopping the boats began with the humiliation of 1,097 migrants arriving at Dover.
More were expected to have crossed the Channel in the sunshine yesterday, too. And once again the Government approach looks more muddled than ever.

Labour’s immediate response was to talk tough about putting asylum seekers on military bases.
Fine. Although the Tories struggled to achieve this and, worryingly, there are no locations for the new camps.
But at the same time, ministers are still firmly ruling out quitting Britain’s membership of a still unreformed European Court of Human Rights.
It’s the one measure which could smash asylum claims at a stroke and allow the deportations to begin.
None of the Government’s current plans will count for anything unless it’s prepared to be truly bold by ending the human rights madness leaving our borders wide open.
Kill bill
RED Queen Angela Rayner has fallen and with any luck her disastrous workers’ rights reforms will end up in the bin, too.
She personally drove through the Employment Rights Bill.
But businesses are praying her demise signals the end for new laws which even the Government said would cost the economy £5billion while other estimates predict 50,000 job losses.
The PM has a chance to prove he is focused on growth by dumping it.
Meanwhile, will Rayner accept a £17,000 parachute payment after being fired for breaching the ministerial code for not paying Stamp Duty?
She once called for exit payments to be banned but new rules scrapping them are not yet in force and she is still entitled.
On the one hand she has a giant mortgage to pay on her new £800,000 seaside flat just as her salary is slashed from £161,409 to £93,904.
On the other are her principles.
It’s a tough one.
Judge dreadful
TERROR plotter Haroon Aswat masterminded the 7/7 bombings, helped plan 9/11 and remains bent on killing Christians and Jews.
So what on earth possessed Mr Justice Jay to wish him “all the best” as he prepares for release back on to our streets?
More staggering still is that a legal loophole means Aswat will be freed without any assessment about the danger he still poses.
Our broken legal system – presided over by weak liberal judges – does us no favours at all.
