The couple left elderly Fred and Enid Mansell with 28p and living on ready meals while they spent on holidays, a £25,000 kitchen, an eternity ring and handbags.

Mansell, of Woolton, Merseyside, had been a £95,000-a-year boss at Jaguar Land Rover.

His wife ran a curtain business until she was made bankrupt.

They lived a comfortable lifestyle in an upmarket suburb but had always dreamed of being millionaires, a court heard.

They were convicted of fraud last month.

Gary and Diane Mansell were convicted of fraud by abuse of position and money laundering following a trial last month.

Jailing them for six years each, a Liverpool crown court judge said: “This is the most despicable display of greed, vanity and selfishness.

“You showed them very little care, they were a cash cow for you to enable you to live that lifestyle.

“You had a position of responsibility, power and trust – all of which was grossly breached by you.”

Enid passed away in December of last year, and Fred now lives in a care home.
