It’s understood their pet cat also perished in the fire.

Heartbroken family friends have launched a fundraiser for the pair, understood to have been in their 20s, in the hope of giving them the funeral “they deserve”.

So far, more than £2,500 has been raised.

Paying tribute, they wrote: “On Monday, January 29 at around 6pm there was a horrific fire in Hilton, Aberdeen.

“My best friend’s two younger sisters in their early 20s tragically lost their lives in the fire inside their flat along with their cat.

“No one should have to bury their child, let alone two.

“I am seeking the generosity and kindness of the public to help raise funds to give them the best send-off they deserve for these two beautiful, kind, and loving girls.

“Help my best friend’s family say their prayers and give them the funeral they deserve.

“If you can please spare any funds towards this, it would be greatly appreciated and really help the family at this horrific time.”

We told how a mum rescued from a blazing tenement with her baby returned to the scene of the fatal fire.

Grace Ekohwo and tiny Gabriel had to clamber out of a second-floor window to safety after the fire ripped through the flat below them.

The tot was taken to hospital immediately after the incident but was discharged.

A couple also told how they tried to tackle the flat fire that killed the sisters.

Fire investigation teams have launched a probe into the cause of the blaze, which injured five.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Emergency services attended and two women were pronounced dead at the scene.

“A baby was taken to hospital as a precaution and was later discharged.

“The fire was put out by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

“Neighbouring properties were evacuated as a precaution.

“The road was closed but has now re-opened and we would like to thank people for their patience.

“A joint investigation with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is ongoing to establish the full circumstances. However, there are no apparent suspicious circumstances at this time.”
