The granddad was found unresponsive by members of the public on Olympic Street, Beswick, just before 11am on Saturday.

Christopher’s family paid tribute to their love one, who they described as a “family man”.

Hanley was likely killed after being hit by his own car while trying to stop it from being stolen, Greater Manchester Police said.

Emergency services attended the incident shortly before 11am; however, Christopher, known as Chris, was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Sunday afternoon a 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder, and a 43-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

They were held in custody and being questioned by police.

Police said that the investigation “continues at pace to get answers for Christopher’s loved ones”.

The horror occurred around 1km from the Etihad Stadium where City beat Newcastle 2-0 in the FA Cup quarter-final yesterday afternoon.

CSI officers were at the scene on Saturday taking pictures, as other detectives made door-to-door enquiries.

A number of evidence cones were also spotted within the cordon.

Stephen Blanchard, 47, who lives near the scene, told the Manchester Evening News: “It’s scary because this is a quiet neighbourhood.

“There’s no trouble around here. Nothing like this ever happens.”

Anyone with information or footage is asked to contact police on 0161 856 3635 quoting log number 1172 of the 16 March 2024.
