Fuming passengers have reported being told their holiday was scrapped less than an hour before departure.
The carnage continues this morning as heavy traffic builds up around the airport and devastated flyers wait with suitcases outside.
In total, the closure is expected to impact more than 1,300 flights, according to FlightRadar24.
Rail services to and from Heathrow – which more than 200,000 people travel through every day – have also been cancelled today, National Rail said.
And the blaze, at a substation in Hayes, West London, cut more than 16,000 homes off from power shortly after 11pm yesterday.
