HOME Secretary James Cleverly joked about giving his wife a date-rape drug hours after announcing a crackdown on drinks spiking, it was reported last night.
The senior Tory, 54, is said to have told a No10 reception that “a little bit of Rohypnol in her drink every night” was “not really illegal if it’s only a little bit”.

He made the jibe on the same day Home Office minister Laura Farris had revealed plans to change the law on spiking in the Commons.
Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper called the jokes “appalling”.
Last night, a spokesman for Mr Cleverly said the comments were an “ironic joke” made during a private conversation for which he apologised.
