The terrifying footage shows a group of kids approach the schoolboy standing near what appears to be a footpath over a busy road in Newport.

A man grabs the boy by his hoodie as he speaks to the group.

Suddenly, one of the kids appears to launch a punch at the schoolboy, prompting the others to join in the vicious attack.

Bone-chilling screams can be heard in the video as the boy is attacked on all sides, with him eventually being pinned against a fence.

The other children appear to kick and punch the schoolboy as the man, who initially held him up, can be heard shouting in the background.

After a number of blows, the man finally steps back in to separate the other children from the schoolboy, once again grabbing him by his clothes.

Telling the boy to “go”, he pushes him back towards the footpath, and appears to say: “No more time for these kids, I promise.”

A spokesperson for Gwent Police confirmed the force was made aware yesterday of a video circulating on social media which “appeared to show a school pupil being assaulted”.

Two arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

The headmaster of the school the boys attend – which the Sun is choosing not to name – said they’re cooperating with cops.

ACC Vicki Townsend added: “We have now identified the young person in the video being circulated online, and officers continue to support him as our enquiries continue.

“We have made two arrests in connection with the incident, and both remain in police custody at this time.

“We are also aware of a separate incident from earlier in the day, where a different child was reportedly assaulted.

“I’d like to reassure our local residents that we have a team working on this case also, and enquiries are ongoing at this time.”

ACC Townsend continued: “We understand the worry and concern that incidents of this nature can cause, and would like to thank the community for the information they’ve given us up to now.

“No matter how small, any piece of information can prove vital in informing our investigation.

“With that said, I’d also like to urge people to not speculate on social media but to contact us immediately if they have any details they think could help our investigation.”

If you have any information which could help police, contact the force by calling 101 or by direct messaging Gwent Police on social media, quoting log 444 of 14/05.

You can also report anonymously using the charity Crimestoppers online or by calling 0800 555 111.
