Fire crews arrived at the house on Saturday at around 3pm where they made the discovery, the Bohemia Fire Department told The New York Post.

Feline corpses were found scattered across the home with some bizarrely being kept in the freezer.

Bohemia Fire Department First Assistant Chief Brian Olsen said: “They notified us about cats and dead cats in the dwelling.

“They are at this time condemning the house.”

The house has now been condemned due to high levels of ammonia, with the Suffolk County SPCA previously reporting a possible leak.

The fire marshal also placed a “keep out” sign on the front door to stop anyone from entering.

But the homeowner was reportedly still in the house hours later, according to News12.

Cops later arrived on the scene to investigate the shocking turn of events.

Pictures from the scene showed a number of living cats pawing at the windows of the house as the police investigated.

But this is apparently not an uncommon site as neighbors told News12 that the house is always surrounded by cats inside and out.

Neighbors said that one man lives at the house in question.

But the neighbors said that cats have roamed the entire neighborhood for years.

They added that the felines were known to go into residents’ backyards and sometimes left their properties smelling like ammonia.

Brandon Gennarelli, 29, a neighbor on the block, said: “I’ve lived here my whole life and we’ve just seen cats coming in and out of the sump over here and at their garage and front door.

“We’ve had a lot of stray cats come in our back and front yards a lot.

“We don’t really know where they’ve been coming from but the fact that they’re coming in such bulk we kind of assumed that it’s coming from somewhere over here.”

It is not clear exactly how many cats were in the house or how many were found dead.
