A baby was being pushed in their pram by their parent when a stranger is said to have approached them.

When a member of the public spotted her allegedly trying to wheel away the baby and the pram, passersby took action and phoned the police.

A police spokesman said: “Members of the public, and the baby’s parent intervened, and thankfully the baby was unharmed.”

Chief Inspector John Jennings-Wharton, of Blackpool Police said: “We know that something like this can be very concerning for the community to hear about.

“We are in the early stages of our investigation and are working to establish the full circumstances.

“We are aware of some social media posts that have been shared online.

“We’d encourage you not to speculate, and to understand that our enquiries are very much ongoing.

“If you do have information or footage that could assist those enquiries, we ask you report them to us through the appropriate channels.”

Thankfully, the baby was unharmed during the incident and is back safely with their parent.

The woman suspected to be involved in the incident has been arrested on charges of child abduction and police assault.

The news comes just weeks after Blackpool was named as the most dangerous seaside town in the UK.

It was revealed that the city had sixth-highest crime rate in the UK with almost 22,000 crimes and 155 offences for every 1,000 people.

Only certain boroughs of London, Middlesborough and Manchester had higher rates of crime.
