Her mother Catherine told BristolLive the man had been “lurking” around a local Co-op store.

The horrified mum said: “A few moments after walking past him she felt a large hand grab her right shoulder and a man speak whilst forcing her to walk alongside him.”

She raised fears that the stranger would appear like her daughters dad and wouldn’t question his motives.

“It happened so quickly,” Catherine said, “and she was so scared she just did what he wanted.

She told how the man forcibly walked her daughter for 10-20 minutes down a road before the terrified student managed to break loose and escape.

A police spokesperson said: “On Monday 17 March we received a report that a child had been approached by a man who grabbed their arm while they were walking in Bishopsworth Road.

“The incident is understood to have taken place at about 8.45am on Friday 14 March.

“An investigation is underway to establish the full circumstances and as part of this CCTV enquiries have been carried out while officers have also spoken to the child’s parent. Officers have also spoken to staff at the child’s school.

“The man is described as being aged in his 30s or 40s and as wearing a face covering at the time. If you have any information that you think may help our investigation, please call 101 and give the call handler the reference number 5225078364.”
