A man was reported to have run into the Matalan store, looking for help after being stabbed, as reported by Manchester Evening News,

Cops and paramedics swarmed the area at 3.25pm the man was rushed to hospital with serious injuries where he and his family are being supported.

Police tape covered the front of the store and clothes were seen on the ground in the doorway after the incident took place.

Part of the pavement and a grassed area have been cordoned off to allow for an investigation and cops said a large police presence will remain in the area.

There haven’t been any arrests made but Greater Manchester Police believe the attack is an isolated incident at that those involved knew each other.

A horrified resident, who lives facing the retail park, told Manchester Evening News that the event was “shocking.”

He said: “Police officers were searching all the way down Park Road, on the pavement and grass verges then taped another bit off.

“We’re used to trouble and things like this around here. It’s the modern life.

“It happening so close to your doorstep is not ideal -it’s just shocking to think someone would do that.”

After the incident, the car park was fully closed off to the public and locals were warned to stay clear of the area.

Greater Manchester Police today said: “An investigation is underway after a 19-year-old man was stabbed at Alexandra Road retail park at 3.25pm this afternoon.

“The victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries and he and his family are being supported.

“A scene remains in place at the retail park and some of the surrounding areas, with a large police presence as we continue to piece together the events and collect evidence.”

Given the attack was in a public space there were a number of witnesses that cops are now trying to track down.

They have urged anyone who might have seen what happened, or be able to identify those involved, to get in contact.

Inspector Andrew Clayton said, “We understand this incident is shocking and took place in a very public space.

“There have been no arrests so far, but enquiries, such as CCTV trawls, are ongoing to determine who is responsible. At this stage, we do believe the attack to be an isolated incident involving those known to one another.

“We have spoken to a number of witnesses so far, but would encourage anyone who believes they have any information or dash cam footage which could assist our investigation, particularly that which may help us identify the perpetrators, to come forward.

“You can do this be speaking to officers on the ground, by calling 101 or contacting Crimestoppers if you would prefer to remain anonymous.”
