The woman, who has been left traumatised by the incident, claimed a man in a balaclava and sunglasses “pulled a knife” out at her doorstep after an altercation with a resident inside her property.
She told Manchester Evening News: “The kids were inside screaming,
“It was so scary for them. I was in the living room with them just looking after them and trying to keep them calm.
“But I was terrified myself. I could see him through the window.”
The masked man then pulled out a device which “went bang” and and created “a lot of smoke”.
Cops have since confirmed that no one was injured during the incident and that those involved were known to each other.
Those in the wider community have been reassured that they are not at risk but have been urged to come forward with any information that might help with the case.
The incident has been called “extremely rare” but residents have been informed to expect a strong police presence in the area today, whilst enquiries continue.
Detective Chief Inspector Victoria Kenyon of the Bury district said: “We swiftly arrested a man yesterday following reports of shots fired. I’m pleased to say no-one was injured during the incident.
“Incidents of this nature are extremely rare in Bury but I know cause significant community concern, particularly as this took place in daylight hours in a public street. I would like to provide some reassurance that it is believed that those involved are known to one another, and there is no wider risk to the public.
“Those living around Mossfield Close can expect to see a large multi-agency presence throughout today whilst we continue our enquiries. Again, I would like to reassure residents that there is no risk to them, however, if you have any concerns, you can speak to officers at the scene.
“Whilst we have spoken with a number of people in the area already, we would continue to appeal for anyone who witnessed the incident, has door bell, CCTV or dash cam footage, to please get in touch.”
