A MAN is fighting for his life after a violent brawl inside a Co-op store.
The suspect, in his 50s, is alleged to have assaulted members of staff in the shop, in Torpoint, Cornwall, on Wednesday.
Police arrived at around 4.45pm when he began hurling abuse at shoppers.
The man was restrained by a customer, but became unresponsive shortly afterwards.
Paramedics rushed him to hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Devon and Cornwall Police arrested a man in his 40s on suspicion of assault and he remains in custody.
A statement from the force said: “Officers are appealing for witnesses and information following an incident at a convenience store in Torpoint.
“Police were called at 4.45pm yesterday, 6 August, following reports of a disturbance at Co-op Food in Fore Street.
“A man in his 50s had allegedly assaulted staff and become abusive to customers. He was restrained by a male customer but became unresponsive a short time later.
“Ambulance attended and the man from Torpoint was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition. A man in his 40s from the Millbrook area has been arrested on suspicion of assault while police enquiries continue. He remains in custody.
“Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information is asked to contact police online or by telephone on 101, quoting log number 696 of 06/08/25.”
