GHOST MODE can send a shiver down the bookies’ spines (2.05 York, nap)
There’s a big prize on offer and in-form Andrew Balding has every chance of lifting it with this talented son of Ghaiyyath. We didn’t see him until June when he caught the eye with a good third on debut at Kempton. He left that form behind at Glorious Goodwood where he was less than two lengths away in a decent maiden contest. His only blip came at Epsom two runs ago where he hated the track when finishing second at odds-on. He showed that was nothing to worry about when storming clear from his rivals at Chester 27 days ago. He absolutely tanked along there and clocked an excellent time in winning by more than five lengths. That was over this distance on decent ground and it seems the penny has firmly dropped with him now. There should be a lot more to come.
CALENDAR GIRL (1.50 Newmarket, nb)
MAKE a date with CALENDAR GIRL. Owen Burrows’ classy filly has done nothing but improve and her slick Doncaster sales race win suggests there’s plenty more to come. She travelled like a good ’un on Town Moor, showing pace and power to swoop late. She’s already proven over this trip and has a lot more to come. Her debut win came on rattling ground so it won’t matter if the going’s on the quick side.
PRECISE (2.57 Newmarket, treble)
PRECISE looks very hard to beat after his blistering win in the Moyglare at The Curragh last time out. That excellent run built nicely on her victory in the Prestige Stakes at Goodwood where she handled the quick ground well. She is a strong stayer over 7f and this mile should bring more improvement on just her fifth outings.

He won well twice over 1m2f earlier this season and shapes as though this longer distance will suit just as well.
He’s got scope to improve on his current mark of 89.
Munsif is proven over this trip and battled strongly to land a good race at Doncaster last time.
He’s up 6lb for that but is another with more to offer.
Respond finished strongly over shorter on Town Moor latest and should relish this stamina test.
His best has come on the sort of ground he should get here.
Daiquiri Bay has run well in hot handicaps without winning and has an each-way chance, while Yabher has ability but needs to bounce back from a poor effort at Goodwood last time out.
YORK

BILLYJOH can really go.
Mick Appleby’s tough grey has been knocking on the door in strong 7f and mile handicaps all summer and this looks a good chance to strike.
He’s run with credit in top company, usually staying on late from off the pace, and ran a cracker at Goodwood last time.

Born A Star got the job done nicely at Musselburgh and is another in the each-way picture.
2.40
HORNSEA BAY can make a splash.
David O’Meara’s improving gelding has been crying out for a bit more luck – notably last time at Ayr when the door was slammed in his face a few times before he flashed home for third.
He’s ideally suited to this extended 1m2f trip on good ground and York’s long straight will play to his late kick.

CHEPSTOW
3.12
LE MILOS has a good record in these veterans’ races and can add another to his tally.
Dan Skelton’s seasoned stayer has rediscovered his spark this year, winning convincingly at Warwick and Fakenham before a summer break.
He travels strongly, jumps economically and has shown that three miles on good ground brings out his best.

Harry Derham’s six-year-old was highly progressive last term, landing smart novice events at Doncaster and Newbury before finishing fifth in the Grade 1 Champion Novices’ Hurdle at Punchestown.
