Huge fire erupts at Forest Gate police station with residents told to close windows as 125 firefighters tackle inferno

A HUGE blaze has erupted at a police station in the capital.

Twenty fire engines and around 125 firefighters are currently tackling the inferno on Romford Road, Forest Gate, East London.

Part of the station, including its roof, is currently alight. 

Large plumes are suffocating the area – with locals being advised to keep their windows and doors closed.

The cause of the fire is not yet known. 

London Fire Brigade said: “The Brigade was called at 16.17pm.

“Firefighters from Stratford, Leytonstone, Plaistow and surrounding fire stations are attending the scene.

Road closures are in place and people are advised to avoid the area while the incident is ongoing.”
