Footage posted to social media shows the blaze in the city’s east burning at around 8pm today.

The large fire right on the water’s edge can be seen by residents in nearby tower blocks.

People across the Thames at the arena said they were able to hear bangs and that they could see smoke.

One video caught of the fire shows it burning before it erupts in a bright orange explosion, reportedly the third eruption of the night.

Another witness said they heard “absolutely enormous and very loud explosions” next to their flat and a shipping container was on fire.

The London Fire Brigade said half of a car and a lorry are alight and the blaze was now “under control”.

They said: “Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters are tackling a fire at an open air yard on Dock Road in Silvertown.

“The Brigade was called at 1951. Crews from Poplar, Millwall, Shadwell, East Greenwich are attended the scene.”

The Met Police said in a statement they are aware of the reports of explosions.

They said: “This was part of a pre-planned filming event in the Canning Town E16 area.

“There is no risk to the public.”

Some witnesses have stated a BBC shipping container is on fire.

The corporation filmed near the location last weekend with it involving a “loud explosion” the Royal Borough of Greenwich said.

The BBC has been approached for comment.
