PLANS to introduce BLUE CARDS into football are now in doubt after Friday’s announcement was cancelled following widespread backlash.

The plan was set to see players receive a 10-minute sin-bin if they were guilty of committing a cynical foul, or if they showed dissent towards the referee, linesman or fourth official.

Trials to introduce blue cards were originally set to be announced at a meeting on FridayReuters

But now those ideas could be scrapped less than 24 hours after the news broke.

According to The Telegraph, reaction to the news – including within some of football’s “corridors of power” – has led to the plans being “blocked”.

Fifa released a statement on Thursday evening insisting sin-bin trials will NOT take place in top-tier competitions.

They also confirmed any rule change would be discussed at next month’s International Football Association Board [IFAB] meeting.
