Brooke posted a lengthy social media message on Tuesday night to explain her decision.
“My father hated the morbidity of funerals,” she wrote.
“He didn’t want one. And although I know people grieve in many ways – and I’m so grateful for all celebrations and events organized to honor him, as his daughter, I had to make my own decision to honor him the best and most genuine way I knew how…privately…the way that made me feel the closest to him.”
Instead of going to the funeral, Brooke said she honored her father by taking her kids to the beach.
She said the “only thing missing” was Hogan watching the waves in a beach chair.
Brooke’s message was posted with a slideshow of seven pictures including her husband and children.
She shared that her daughter Molly will carry on the “little fish” nickname that Hogan gave to Brooke.
“Daddy, we honored you in the simplest way that agreed with my soul,” she continued.
“Molly loved the water. I think she’ll be a ‘little fish’ as you called me.
“Every grain of sand and every wave reminded me of being your beach baby, and brought us closer to you.
“I pray you are at peace and know how dearly I love you.
“Rest in heaven, Daddy.”
Hogan was laid to rest in a private ceremony in Largo, Florida.
His casket was carried in by pallbearers wearing yellow boutonnieres, a nod to his iconic wrestling outfit.
Hogan suffered a heart attack in his home at 71 years old and was later pronounced dead.
He shared two children, Brooke and Nick, with his first wife Linda.
