HYBRID works say the office is now seen as a break from home – not the other way round.

Employees enjoying flexible work have said the office offers fewer distractions and more socialising, making it a more desirable space to do their job.

A poll of 1,000 hybrid office workers found 39 per cent find it easier to collaborate in their workplace with colleagues.

It emerged 26 per cent appreciate the change of scenery, with 55 per cent admitting they miss the office environment when at home – at least sometimes.

A further 44 per cent said being in the office makes them more productive, as their home environment is often filled with distractions.

A fifth get taken away from work to deal with the ‘demands’ of their children, while 27 per cent are distracted by pets.

A spokesperson for Access Self Storage, which offers flexible office space around the UK, said: “It’s important to have a workspace that allows you to separate home life from work life in a friendly and productive environment.

“A place where you can focus and maintain a healthy balance between your personal and professional commitments.

“This research shows there are lots of benefits to being in the office, especially if your home life is a bit more chaotic than you’d like.”

The study went on to find other distractions suffered from the WFH rank and file include deliveries or doorbells ringing (33 per cent) or the temptation to scroll social media (22 per cent).

While just under a quarter (23 per cent) find the presence of their partner off putting, to say the least.

With 67 per cent of these left distracted by them trying to talk about non-work-related things, and 41 per cent frustrated by them ‘banging around in the kitchen’.

Two thirds (66 per cent) admit they go into the office specifically to escape the distractions at home.

Of those who have working in the office as an option, 31 per cent do so in order to better separate their work and home lives.

While 30 per cent believe their desk setups and resources are better there, according to the OnePoll.com data.

Nearly seven in 10 (69 per cent) also think being in an office environment, surrounded by other people to connect with, is good for career development.

If given the choice, three days a week in the office is what most people selected as the ideal amount (25 per cent).

With slightly fewer (18 per cent) believing two days would be best – and just four per cent happy to go back five days a week.

Access Self Storage’s spokesperson added: “For many, the office isn’t just a place to work – it’s a space to reset and refocus.

“Without the interruptions of home life, employees can find it easier to get into a productive flow, bounce ideas off colleagues, and enjoy the structure that a workplace environment offers.

“Sometimes, a bit of separation between work and home life is exactly what’s needed to strike the right balance.”
