A NEIGHBOUR of Axel Rudakubana fears his ricin stash killed her cat — and claims police told her there was no risk.

Cops had found the poison at the killer’s home and warned Caroline McDonald that pet Jo Jo, nine, had got into a forensic tent in the garden.

Hours later the moggie fell ill. Vets said it was poison and put down Jo Jo last August.

Caroline, 51, said: “I heard police say ‘50 minutes exposure then wash off’.

“They were in the full gear. I asked, ‘Anything we need to know?’ They said there was nothing to worry about.”

Despite the cat dying, cops said it presented “a low risk to the public”.

Caroline, who lodged a formal complaint with Merseyside cops, was at home when armed response units arrived at Radukabana’s home just minutes after he was arrested on July 29 following the attack.

She said: “They did a search of the garden and then the tents went up.

“Then my cat got into the forensic tent and a CID officer came round to my house and said, ‘can you try and keep it away?

“Curiosity killed the cat, never a truer saying. That night the cat came in and just curled up and didn’t move all night,

“The next morning he was still like that. I thought there’s something up with the cat.

“Within the hour he’d started foaming at the mouth.

“I took him to the vet and they said without doing a toxicology report it looks look like the cat’s been poisoned.”
