A CHIPPY that sells a fish supper for £3 is the latest to claim to be the cheapest in Britain.
The bargain meal of haddock and chips is a fraction of the £9 national average.

NB PRESS LTDOwner Stan Mathews says of his Grimsby chippy: ‘I’m happy that I’m giving families the chance to eat a nourishing meal at a price they can afford’[/caption]
Stan Mathews, 57, who owns Mathew’s Chippy in Grimsby, Lincs, said: “We’re in the middle of a cost-of-living crisis that is affecting the whole country, and the people hardest hit are the poorest.
“Our shop is in one of the most rundown areas of the town. Many people living here are struggling to put food on the table. At three quid a throw, I’m not making any profit.
“But I’m happy that I’m giving families the chance to eat a nourishing meal at a price they can afford.”
It comes after a chippy in Huddersfield offered a fish supper for £4.80, beaten by one in Boston, Lincs, selling it for £4.30.
Stan added: “I have my own fish supply business here in Grimsby. I smoke my own haddock, and so I can keep my overheads down.
“I do appreciate that other chippy owners may not be able to offer the same deals as me because they have to buy in their fish from suppliers.
“But I’m just happy to pass on the savings I achieve to my customers — many of whom are families on the breadline with young kids.”
